What to see in South Tyrol
The Iceman | Ötzi Museum in Bolzano
Over 5000 years ago, a man climbed up to the icy heights of the Schnalstal glacier and died. He was found by accident by a couple of German tourists in 1991, with his clothes and equipment, mummified and frozen: an archaeological sensation and a unique snapshot of a Copper Age man. For several years highly specialised research teams examined the mummy and the articles found with it. They have been on exhibit since March 1998 at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. www.iceman.it

Nowadays it is particularly appreciated for its wonderful acoustics and regularly hosts concerts and events of international resonance such as the famous classic festival "Settimane musicali meranesi" which takes place at the end of August.
The Medieval Castle dominates Merano and the surrounding valleys and gives its name to the entire region of Tyrol. In the tower of the building houses a historical and cultural museum where visitors can get to know all secrets of South Tyrol's history and traditions. And what were a castle without the raptors? In the close vicinity of the Castle you will find a centre dedicated to these splendid birds, where wounded and ill animals find refuge and let free to fly for the joy of all visitors!
